Tuition & Financial Aid

Koinonia Christian Academy (KCA) does not receive funding from the government for the operation of the school and therefore we rely upon tuition and donations to meet the operating costs of the school. As you are considering KCA, should you have any questions please feel free to contact us to ensure you have all the necessary information to make an informed decision.

Tax Receipts

KCA provides a donation receipt, if applicable, for the portion of tuition paid above the calculated cost per pupil. Receipts are issued and distributed each spring to eligible families.

Registration Fees

New registration fees are $200 for 1st student and $100 for each additional child. Non-refundable.

Re-registration fees are $200 per family to be submitted with each re-registration form. Non-refundable. All re-registration payments received before March 12th will be deducted from your total tuition for the 2024-25 school year.

Payments received after April 30th will be charged an additional $50 late fee.

Tuition Fees

Tuition rates are typically set in late spring prior to the next school year. The approved tuition rates for 2023-24 school year are published below:

  • Transportation via bus is available for most families for an additional annual cost. This is an optional service paid for each family that uses it. Please contact the school for further information.

  • DTuition fees are to be paid in advance, either in full (lump sum), or by 10-monthly installments via pre-authorized debit (preferred method), or monthly post-dated cheques and submitted within 15 days of the first day of school. Activity fees are paid in full at the beginning of the school year with the first invoice. All exceptions or alternative payment options must be pre-approved by the Principal.

  • Yes, Koinonia Christian Academy is a registered charity with the CRA. KCA provides a charitable donation receipt, if applicable, for the portion of tuition paid above the calculated cost per pupil in a calendar year. Receipts are issued annually only to eligible families, typically at the beginning of March each year.

  • The portion of the tuition fee payments that is eligible for a charitable donation receipt is determined based upon Canada Revenue Agency’s information circular 75-23, paragraph 7 and 8. Since KCA implements an incremental family tuition rate, the more children you have that are enrolled full time, the smaller your charitable tax receipt would be.

The specific calculation to determine the cost per pupil is completed each year and therefore the cost per pupil amount fluctuates.

See the following examples HERE. Each family’s tax situation varies:

Assumption: Total non-refundable tax credit for charitable donation is 40% (29% federal + 11% provincial)

In accordance with the Canada Revenue Agency’s guidelines, child care expenses may be claimed in certain situations where a person paid to have someone care for an eligible child in order to work, run a business, or attend school. KCA provides a tax receipt for tuition paid for students in the JK program that a parent may claim as a deduction on their income tax return.

When you take into consideration the tax deductions and credits, quality Christian education can be even more affordable.

  • Yes! We have two discounts available. KCA offers a tuition credit for any full-time family (including KCA staff) that refers a new family that enrols at KCA full-time. The $1,000 tuition credit will be split equally between the current family and new family. A form must be completed to claim the Referral Incentive.

Families who have students enrolled full-time at KCA and full-time at a Christian High School in the Waterloo Region will receive a $1,000 tuition credit to their KCA tuition. The Christian High School Discount must be applied for during the registration process.

Does KCA offer any Financial Aid or have a Tuition Assistance Program?

Yes! The Tuition Assistance Program has been established for parents who wish to have their children enrolled at KCA and do not have the financial means to pay the full tuition. Tuition bursaries are available to families who have students at KCA or are considering sending their child(ren) to the school. Applications from families will be considered by the Tuition Assistance Committee until funds are exhausted.

For further details, please refer to the KCA Tuition Assistance Program

When can eligible families apply for tuition assistance?

Unfortunately, applications for the 2024-25 school year can no longer be submitted. The Tuition Assistance Program for 2025-26 school year will proceed subject to funding availability. Typically, the application period for the following school year starts at the beginning of March and ends mid-May.

  • Application for Bursaries and Incentive grants are processed through the FAST (Financial Aid Software) program. Applicants will be required to complete an application online through a secure portal and pay an application fee. The information will be verified by an external audit service. This process enables the Tuition Assistance Committee to make accurate and informed decisions in awarding bursaries and incentives to qualifying families.

With an approved application through FAST, KCA families may also be eligible for tuition bursaries through Christian School Foundation, in addition to the KCA Tuition Assistance. The Tuition Assistance Committee applies for these bursaries on behalf of eligible families. Tuition Assistance continues to extend the vision of Christian education to more and more families each year.
